MPower is a community based intervention aimed at increasing the awareness of health and sexuality issues in the GLBT men’s community of the Roanoke Valley by providing social outlets.
Who is welcome at MPower?
Anyone who wants to be involved in MPower is welcome to attend functions, be a part of the Event Volunteer Team or apply to be on the Core Group. MPower welcomes members of the gay and bisexual community, as well as those who don’t want to be out, can’t be out, or are questioning their sexuality. We know our community is a diverse one, and we would like to see all of that diversity represented. It is our goal to provide a safe and fun space for all people while maintaining confidentiality.
What is the core group?
The Core Group is a group of volunteers that meet regularly to discuss and plan upcoming events, review materials, and to provide leadership for MPower. Core Group membership requires a higher level of dedication than other volunteer opportunities within Mpower. The Core Group meets twice a month and staffs the events that MPower sponsors. It is a great way to meet people, socialize, and ensure that MPower is meeting the needs of a diverse community. Core Group membership begins by attending a Core Group meeting as an observer and then completing an application and interview. If you are interested in being a part of this rewarding experience, contact a staff member at MPowerRke@aol.com
How else can I participate?
