Nonprofit Economic Impact Study

A new study reveals that more than $220 million was raised and invested in the community by nonprofits in fiscal year 2007. Released on April 14, 2008, The Economic Impact of Nonprofits in the Roanoke Virginia Region is the first study to measure the value nonprofits contribute to the community’s economy. Spearheaded by the Council of Community Services’ Nonprofit Resource Center of Western Virginia, the report covers nonprofits serving the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke.

The Nonprofit Resource Center’s Steering Committee is very pleased to share the report as well as the message the report sends the community. Readers may be surprised to learn that the results of study indicate that the 120 nonprofits submitting surveys have an $183,000,000 collective economic impact on the region.
