Daniel W. Merenda Retires as Council President; Anne Marie Green Named as Successor

Council of Community Services has announced that Daniel W. Merenda will retire as President and that the Board of Directors has appointed Anne Marie Green to succeed him.
Merenda served 12 years at the organization; he served as Vice President of Planning and Consultation before being appointed President in 2012. Within those years of service, he has become a leading figure within the community as a champion of affordable housing, homelessness solutions, comprehensive harm reduction services, information and referral, planning and consultation, and volunteerism.
“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve the residents of Roanoke and Southwest Virginia as President of the Council of Community Services. My colleagues at the Council have been a joy to work with as we built an organization better able to serve our community. For that, I am grateful,” said Mr. Merenda.
Merenda will retire from the organization on June 30, 2019.
After an eight-month search, the Leadership Transition Team appointed Anne Marie Green to serve as President effective July 1, 2019. Green is the current Director of Human Resources for Roanoke County. Green holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of William and Mary, as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. She is active in various professional and community organizations, including Virginia Local Government Manager’s Association, International City Manager’s Association, Salem/Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce, Roanoke Regional Public Works Academy and the Public Relations Society of America.
“We experienced exponential growth under Dan’s leadership and we feel confident that Anne Marie will continue building on the organization’s success. She brings a unique skill set; her extensive experience in local government, human resources, and communications will be an asset to our staff, community, and the people we serve in the years to come,” said Chris Chittum, Board Chair.
Green will take over an organization of nearly 60 years with a budget of $6 million, a staff of 60, and four core issue areas; community engagement, homelessness solutions, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention and care, and information and referral.
