"We all have something to give. So, if you know how to read, find someone who can

Today, we join millions across the country and around the world in celebrating the life and legacy of President H.W. Bush, founder of Points of Light – the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. As a member of the Points of Light Network, HandsOn Blue Ridge is proud to continue his legacy in our community, bringing to his life his enduring belief in each individual’s ability to create meaningful change.

Since his first day in office, President Bush devoted special attention to individuals who stepped up to help solve society’s toughest challenges, and created the Daily Point of Light Award to lift up their stories and inspire others to act. He ignited a spirit of volunteerism and, in the decades that followed, inspired millions to be points of light in communities across the globe.

“I’ve always believed that in each individual, there’s a point of light waiting to be revealed; in each community, a thousand miracles waiting to happen.” – President George H.W. Bush

As a member of the Points of Light Network, HandsOn Blue Ridge’s Alison Jorgensen and Amanda Holcomb had the opportunity to witness the Bush family in service. Neil Bush, one of President Bush’s sons, is chairman of the board of directors at Points of Light and will continue his legacy.

“We encourage everyone to honor the legacy of President Bush by pledging time to volunteer. Become a point of light in your community!” – Alison Jorgensen, HandsOn Blue Ridge

“President George H.W. Bush was kind, compassionate and humble man; a leader who believed in service for the betterment of society, said Natayle Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. “As he aptly put it, ‘any definition of a successful life must include service to others.’ The call to serve your country and fellow man – both of equal value – was a centerpiece of his presidency and life. Today because of his work, Points of Light and its global network are an enduring part of his legacy.”

If you wish to pay tribute to President Bush, please take a moment to pledge an act of service in his honor and join thousands of points of light in communities around the world go to.
