Homeless Management Information System
The Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is the Blue Ridge Continuum of Care's local information-sharing system that uses local housing data to help service providers coordinate services and share information with unhoused or at-risk populations.
What does HMIS do?
- Tracks demographics, conducts basic assessments of need, and provides data on bed utilization
- Monitors services delivered by providers and services received, as well as identifies gaps in housing services in the community
With HMIS, we can answer:
- How many people are unhoused on the streets or in the service system?
- How many people are chronically/episodically unhoused?
- What are the characteristics and services needs of those served?
- Which programs are most effective?
