Local Artist Walt Hodges Partners with the Roanoke Drop-In Center for Benefit Art Show
Amanda H., Roanoke
The Roanoke Drop-In Center is thrilled to announce its partnership with renowned local artist Walt Hodges for a benefit art show, “Just Off The Easel,” on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 2 – 6 PM. The event will be held at the Garden City Recreation Center, 3741 Yellow Mountain Road, Roanoke, VA 24014. Admission to the show is donating at least one canned food item.
Hodges’ main goal is to unite people with his art while supporting the center’s community services and reviving the recreation center by housing the event there. “Walt has a very special way of connecting with others, in person, and through his art,” said Joe Cobb, Vice Mayor of Roanoke. “The Drop-In Center focuses on that human connection too…That’s what makes this partnership so unique.”
During the show, attendees can participate in what Hodges coined “Creative Assembly.” It describes a collaborative art process to create one cohesive piece. He will donate the final piece to the Garden City Recreation Center, where it will permanently hang.
“Art has always been the voice of change,” said Todd Rothrock, the office manager of the Drop-In Center. “It brings people together for a common yet uniquely personal experience.”
Art captures the truth of a moment, amplifies voices, and unites people. This show serves as a testament to the transformative power of art.
